ICFF 2009

I attended the ICFF in NYC back in May, and never got around to posting my photos. Here's a small sampling of the awesomeness that took place there. I recommend attending next year!

Gareth Neal - Turned Chair

Jennifer over at Gareth Neal's office sent me his latest product last week, a turned chair. Very cool and cleanly done.
His work is currently on display at the V&A Museum in London.

See my previous post for more of his work.

A video of him working on a piece can be seen here.

Digital Pixel Posse - FDR/Obama Center Piece

In January of this year I co-founded Digital Pixel Posse, a graphic design company focused on unique and unorthodox presentation methods and imaging. The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Institute's gala was held at the Mellon Auditorium in Washington DC last night, and my company was commissioned to design a limited edition run of 50 center pieces for the tables.

We designed the pieces so FDR's images and memorable quotes were set on a plywood board, intersecting a glass sheet with Barack Obama's inauguration speech and photos. The duality of the presidents is evident in several ways; they appear to be waving at each other, their profiles appear to be speaking to each other, and a whole presidential seal is formed when the two are put together. The whole work can be disassembled and wall hung as well. An announcement was made towards the end of the event that these were available for guests to bring home, and within 5 seconds all were gone!

We made a lot of new friends and even got to speak with the Executive Director of the upcoming Louis Kahn designed FDR memorial on Roosevelt Island in New York, which is finally set to break ground in September. The project is called Four Freedoms Park, I'll be making the trip up and covering it during construction.

Danecia Sibingo - Driftwood Plywood Sculpture

This curvy beauty currently sits in Belford Square, London. Danecia Sibingo is a 3rd year architecture student. Very impressive, I see future commissions on the scale of Anish Kapoor.

Sears Tower Ledge Opens

I was in Chicago in May and took the opportunity to go up the Sears Tower to the Sky Deck and look over the city. It was an unbelievable experience, but the newly opened Ledge had not been completed, I wish it had! The box of 1.5" thick glass hangs out 4 feet past the edge of the building, looking 1,353 feet down. Looking down 103 floors will definitely get your palms sweating.

Hybrid Architects - Remington Court

My good friend Nick over at Hybrid Seattle sent me some photos of their recently completed Remington Court project. The project has 4 units, which sold out within 2 weeks of completing construction. This project was a success both in design and delivery. Congrats guys, looking for more work like this from you in the future!
