Digital Pixel Posse - FDR/Obama Center Piece

In January of this year I co-founded Digital Pixel Posse, a graphic design company focused on unique and unorthodox presentation methods and imaging. The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Institute's gala was held at the Mellon Auditorium in Washington DC last night, and my company was commissioned to design a limited edition run of 50 center pieces for the tables.

We designed the pieces so FDR's images and memorable quotes were set on a plywood board, intersecting a glass sheet with Barack Obama's inauguration speech and photos. The duality of the presidents is evident in several ways; they appear to be waving at each other, their profiles appear to be speaking to each other, and a whole presidential seal is formed when the two are put together. The whole work can be disassembled and wall hung as well. An announcement was made towards the end of the event that these were available for guests to bring home, and within 5 seconds all were gone!

We made a lot of new friends and even got to speak with the Executive Director of the upcoming Louis Kahn designed FDR memorial on Roosevelt Island in New York, which is finally set to break ground in September. The project is called Four Freedoms Park, I'll be making the trip up and covering it during construction.

What a neat idea, no wonder the guests loved it!
