Onion Flats

Onion Flats is a Philadelphia based design/build/develop firm that seems to be rapidly injecting the city with modern, creative solutions to urban redevelopment. A team of 3 brothers (Pat, Tim, and Johnny McDonald) leads the firm; a fantastic example of a family businesses making a difference in the world of architecture and real estate. I hope to see much more of these guys in the future!

Below is Rag Flats, a site which used to be a Rag Factory, but had since become a dump site. I had the chance to visit the site in 2007 and spoke with Pat McDonald who was on site finishing construction on the last unit.

I share a similar fascination with modern renditions of urban rowhouses, look for my upcoming expo on redefining the Baltimore Rowhouse.

I've been obsessed with their process and their production for the last 3 years.

This is basically a business plan for the kind of work I want to do in a chicago context. It's nice to hear of others that are working towards similar career goals for some of our wonderful inner cities here in the US.
